High transportation costs, inflation prompts Waterloo region school board to send letters to education minister
Trustees with the Waterloo Region District School Board have passed the budget for the 2023-24 school year.
But in doing so, they were “forced to make some very difficult decisions regarding staffing and resources,” chairperson Joanne Weston wrote in a letter to Ontario’s Minister of Education Stephen Lecce.
The board’s letter, dated June 27 and which has also been published on the school board’s website, has asked Lecce to review how school boards are currently being funded and “address some of the critical gaps” the board is facing.

Simon Fraser University is number one for its global impact on sustainable cities and communities—and fifth in the world for its response on climate action—according to the Times Higher Education (THE) 2023 Impact Rankings.

Sask. government pledges $40M top-up for education budget
A month after Premier Scott Moe said more money was on the way for school divisions, Saskatchewan’s education minister announced a $40 million top-up.
Dustin Duncan shared the news during a media conference in Saskatoon at Bishop Filevich Ukrainian Bilingual School.
“The government of Saskatchewan has funded enrollment increases in the past and I want to assure you that we will continue to increase enrollment funds to support our growing and diverse province,” Duncan said.
Duncan pledged $20 million for school divisions to address swelling enrollment numbers and $20 million to help with “classroom complexity.”

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Sunday announced the implementation of the National Curriculum Framework for Foundation Stage (NCFFS) from the 2022-23 academic session.

High school students in Saskatchewan will have the option to buff up their hockey skills in one of over 180 courses for K-12 students that will be available as part of the Saskatchewan Distance Learning Corp.’s website.
