Episode 7 features an item that has been around for a long time, but many of us explored it greatly when having to teach in various teaching scenarios throughout this pandemic. I am speaking of the play-along videos. These are videos that include a song, various rhythms, melodic, or body percussion patterns, and a moving conductor so that students can watch and actively “play along” with the video. It is very similar to “follow the bouncy ball” karaoke videos.

Tuition fees eliminated for Ontario police officers
Ontario is making some major changes in an effort to boost police recruitment, including eliminating tuition fees and post-secondary education requirements.
Speaking in Etobicoke, Ont., Premier Doug Ford said there was a “growing wave of crime” in the province and, as a result, there is an immediate need to bring in reinforcements.
“People don’t feel safe. Some are scared to take the subway or to go for a walk once it gets dark and that’s wrong,” he told reporters.
“We need more police officers on our street.”

Self-directed learning at the new Bedford school aims to teach life skills alongside the curriculum
Students at a new high school being built in Bedford, NS, will soon have an opportunity to experience a new approach to education in the province.
The school, which is slated to open this September and has not yet been named, will offer students self-directed learning.
The model will see students in grades 10 to 12 spend about two-thirds of their time with teachers in a regular classroom, and the other one-third on flex time.
